The Use and Potential of Extensible Mark-up (xml) in Speech Generation

چکیده

discusses the importance of the extensible markup language (XML) to the development of current and future speech synthesis systems. XML is an emerging standard of textual markup which is well suited to efficient computer manipulation. It provides a means for representing and processing the complex linguistic structures used in synthesis in an open and non-proprietary manner. Currently XML is being used to markup text for input into text-to-speech systems, for the annotation of corpora, and for the implementation of speech driven applications. However recent research has shown how XML can be used to create an open architecture for synthesis through the markup of working data structures and through the creation of a language for manipulating XML data. The article concludes by suggesting that work towards standards for marking up the information structure of text and its discourse function with XML would help create a new generation of intelligent sounding computer voices.

Representation and processing of linguistic structures for an all-prosodic synthesis system using XML

The ProSynth speech synthesis project aims to reimplement and extend the YorkTalk all-prosodic synthesis system in an open manner preserving its most appealing theoretical aspects. A significant novel aspect of the architecture of ProSynth is the use of the extensible mark-up language (XML) as a computational formalism for the representation of hierarchical linguistic structures. The facilities...

RelaxNG with XML Data Structures

XML mark-up is used in a wide range of applications and in particular for data transfer via the Internet. XML textbooks and web-based tutorials typically introduce XML mark-up by the use of examples and the rules for well-formed XML, e.g. XML Tutorial. From Concrete To Virtual Annotation Mark-Up Language: The Case Of COMMOn-REFs

This work presents the data model we adopted for annotating coreference. Our data model includes different levels of annotation, such as part-of-speech, syntax and discourse. We compare our encoding schemes to the abstract XML encoding being proposed as standard. We also present our tool for coreference resolution that handles our data model.

Integrating Natural Language Generation with XML Web Technology

The paper describes a software demo integrating Natural Language Generation (NLG) techniques with recent developments in XML web technology. The NLG techniques include a form of template-based generation, transformation of text plan trees to text specification trees, and a multi-stage pipeline architecture. The web technology includes XSLT transformation processors, an XML database, a Java serv...

Higher Order Applicative XML Documents

XML is the extensible mark-up language designed to describe data on the world wide web. The syntax and semantics of a higher order applicative extension of XML is described here. In HOAX, the tag constructions a of standard XML documents denote the application of a function f to its arguments a. HOAX provides a natural “higher order XSLT”, that is, a higher order functional language wh...
